T.I. begins prison sentence on 26 May 09
T.I. (Clifford J. Harris Jr.) will report to a low security Arkansas prison by noon on 26 May 2009, to commence his one-year-and-one-day jail sentence.
The Grammy winner was arrested in 2007 for illegal weapons possession and was sentenced to 366 days in jail in March 2009. He pleaded guilty to the charges after he attempted to buy machine guns and silencers to protect himself, after the murder of his best friend.
As a part of his plea deal, which was accepted in May of this year, the rapper has to complete 1,000 hours of community service before the sentence, pay a fine of $100,000 and complete an additional 500 hours of community service after his release.
Since his sentencing, the star has said that he is happy to be moving on and taking steps to reach the next chapter in his life. ”I apologize to my family, to the young men, young women that I mentor. I hope that I can keep at least one, if not a million or more, from going down a similar path. I just want to say thank you” he said during a press conference.
The 28 year old will be eligible for early release in 10 months.
