Supafest and South Sydney Rabbitohs Announce Innovative Partnership
Australia’s largest Urban Music Festival Supafest, and Australia’s most celebrated Rugby League Club the South Sydney Rabbitohs have come together to launch an exciting and innovative sports and entertainment marketing partnership.
Supafest 2011 is set to deliver some of the hottest and leading performers in the urban music world today including superstars Snoop Dogg, Nelly and Taio Cruz with many more still to be announced.
Kicking off at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on April 9th, the festival will make its way around Australia with shows also confirmed in Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. With 2 massive stages and over 9 hours of live music, Supafest is expecting to draw crowds of over 90,000 people making it one of the world’s largest urban music festivals. ANZ Stadium is also the home ground of the South Sydney Rabbitohs.
65,000 people were in attendance at Supafest 2010, with a vast majority of the crowd being from multicultural and Indigenous backgrounds. These punters are immersed in the urban genre of music which forms the soundtrack to their every day lives.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs have the youngest membership base in the NRL – they have a very strong affiliation with the local and country Indigenous communities, with a strong element ofurban culture running through the club ranks. The club works tirelessly with community organisations via their official community program ‘Souths Cares’, which assists disadvantaged youth. This is done by drawing on the rich heritage of the Rabbitohs and engaging current players in the delivery of programs that promote the benefits of education and a healthy lifestyle. The affiliation with Supafest presents an ideal opportunity to step up the community interaction in conjunction with the high public profile of the superstar urban artists.
The partnership will focus on a selection of the Supafest artists and key Rabbitohs players, who together will visit schools and established community programs during their stay.
In addition, a specially promoted Supafest Festival ticket will allow people to purchase a Supafest Bling Ring VIP Ticket and receive a limited edition Rabbitohs New Era cap for $169. The SupaRabbit package is limited to only 500 and is available online until 10 February 2011 or until sold out. $10 from every SupaRabbit package sold will be donated to Souths Cares.
In addition, a host of cross promotional activity will be activated at a selection of Rabbitohs home games and via the Supafest website targeting the event’s 70,000 plus membership database.
Supafest co-producers Dwayne Cross and John Denison stated: “This is an exciting and unique initiative, one that brings sport and entertainment together and one that allows both parties to cross promote to potentially new audiences whilst also giving back at the community level. We felt that the South Sydney Rabbitohs had a very strong community program and touched an audience that understood our event – hopefully with the international artists participating at Supafest we can bring some joy and hope to some of the community program participants whilst also promoting the values of the festival”
South Sydney Rabbitohs, Indigenous All Stars player, and a man who can count Snoop Dogg as one of his many fans, Nathan Merritt said: “This is a really exciting initiative and I’m glad that my football club and Supafest are teaming up to cross-promote each other and also help out Souths Cares. We’ve done some community activities in Redfern with Snoop Dogg before and it really gave the area a lift. These world-renowned artists are very popular in areas like South Sydney and I know that joining up withSupafest with do wonders for both organisations and their followers.”
