MTV AUSTRALIA WELCOMES ERIN MCNAUGHT TO THE MTV VJ TEAM

Sydney, Australia, Monday December 14, 2009 – Erin McNaught is set to embark on an exciting journey with MTV Australia as the network today announces her as the newest addition to the infamous MTV VJ team. Effective immediately, McNaught will join Ruby Rose and Darren McMullen as a full time member of the team hosting a variety of on and off-air initiatives.

McNaught initially caught the attention of MTV execs when she travelled to Falls Creek, Victoria for MTV’s 2009 Snow Jam, standing out with her go-getter attitude, quirky sense of humour and self-proclaimed “adrenalin junkie” enthusiasm.  After being invited back to Guest VJ at MTV Summer, and last week’s Optus One80 project launch for budding film makers, MTV continued to be impressed by McNaught’s talents and she was appointed as a full time member of the MTV VJ team.

Commented Rebecca Batties, General Manager, Music Brands, MTV Networks Australia & New Zealand: “Erin embraced MTV Snow Jam and MTV Summer with her trademark passion, commitment and enthusiasm and it became abundantly clear to us that she would be the perfect addition to our stellar VJ team.  MTV is renowned for unearthing new talent and creating award-winning TV personalities, both in Australia and around the world and I have no doubt that Erin will flourish as part of the MTV family.”

Erin McNaught, MTV VJ said: “This job is the ultimate for me. Music is my world and there aren’t many people who get to immerse themselves in music and popular culture for a living. When I found out I got the job, I was in my car and Money For Nothing was playing.  When they sang the line, I Want My MTV, I started laughing because I never imagined I would be sitting here, 10 years later, now a part of something that is synonymous with my generation - it blew me away.”

Growing up in Brisbane, McNaught had a “back-to-nature” childhood. She moved to Seattle for two years before returning to Australia and ending up as the bass guitarist and back-up singer in a punk rock band. In 2006 she represented Australia in the Miss Universe competition and was propelled into the spotlight when she became a personal favourite of Donald Trump and made an appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman. Since her return to Australia, McNaught has gone from strength to strength with her sights set on a fruitful career in the television industry.
