Marques Houston new album ‘Mr Houston’

Marques Houston puts aside the youthful crooning of an industry playboy to offer his maturing audience what it sounds like to sing in love, with the Australian release of his 4th solo album, ‘Mr. Houston’ on EMI.

A man of just under 30 years of age, its hard to believe that Marques has already celebrated 20 years in the entertainment business but as an eleven year old boy, his group IMX (formerly known as Immature) released their first album. The trio went on to release another 5 albums that achieved strong cross-over success, with their 1994 gold-selling single, “Never Lie” reaching top 5 in Billboard’s “Hot 100”.

Since those early days, Marques has released three chart topping solo albums, starred in five major motion pictures and two network sitcoms and featured on a number of other artists songs including the 50 cents remix of his hit single ‘candy shop’.
Having taken a 2 year hiatus from recording, Marques returned to the studio matured as a songwriter as well as a man.

“I wanted to do things my way this time and just venture out there as an artist…musically; this one is just a natural growth for me”

Looking inside himself for inspiration, trying to delve deeper and bearing more than he had done in the past, much of the subject matter of ‘Mr Houston’ is, as it has always been, centered on relationships.

Marques Houston penned and produced all songs on the album he also worked with a new production team including producer Detail (Akon, Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera), as well as Jay Bynum and Alex Cantrell. With 6 stand-out tracks each with a slick video, Houston also wanted to give a different feeling to this latest offering by adding more live instruments including the tickling of piano keys and the strumming of guitar strings.

The first single ‘Case Of You’ is based around a heart-felt lyric about lost love and the hurt that follows, is a perfect fit for radio and heart-broken music fans alike. A video brings the song to life and will undoubtedly attract a strong female following as Marques pours his heart out. Other stand-outs are ‘Body’, ‘How I Do’, ‘Date’ and ‘Tonight’.

“My personal favorite song on this album is a song that I wrote for my girlfriend and it’s called ‘Beautiful Woman. That’s my favorite because whenever you enter into a new relationship, you got a lot of haters, you know, and everybody was kinda like trying to hate on our relationship – not my immediate friends that are in my camp, but like outsiders – and we got through it, and I feel like we accomplished something by getting through that.”

“You know, you can tell when a person is heart-broke because they’ll write about all heartbroken songs, and you can tell when a person is in love because they’ll write about love songs. So this [album] is a mixture. It has my pain from my last relationship in it and it has my happiness from this [current] relationship.”
