Lucky Country

Directed by Kriv Senders, this period western set in the Adelaide bush lands in 1902 is a gripping thriller that takes many expected turns.

Nat (Aden Young) is the complicated single father of Sarah (Hanna Mangan Lawrence) and Tom (Toby Wallace). Nat is barely hanging on to his piece of land but believes that his faith will provide what is necessary to sustain his family and their farm, much to the frustration of Sarah and skepticism of Tom.

When three suspicious ex-soldiers turn up at their door amidst rumours of the discovery of gold, the story takes a mysterious and uncomfortable turn that sees the once peaceful county side become a harsh and sinister landscape.

The tension between the characters and the shocking turns of events kept me at the edge of my seat til the end. However, I left the cinema feeling neither happy nor disappointed. One thing is for certain, the title is definitely a parody!
