DIESEL:U:MUSIC SYDNEY TOUR STOP - LINE UP AND ARTISTS BIOS

The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt!

BAND MEMBERS: Neil Fridd and friends

COUNTRY: NYC, USA

IN ONE PHRASE: The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! are a never ending romp of a dance party.

Looped pianos and saxes race on top of crappy synths and ill beats, and like twenty vocal takes (like seriously rivaling broken social scene status) are mixed in there somewhere. These are severely catchy, dancey pop songs that actually have lyrical content. These are songs about friends, romance and everything else that rules in life, presented in a comic, yet somehow deathly serious, way. These are songs that simultaneously make you feel something in your heart and in your feet, songs that you haven’t heard in almost a month, but for some reason woke up with stuck in your head this morning.
Live, TPDR becomes a whole new beast altogether. Neil is relentless, running through crowds, scaling things, doing acrobatics, all this while wearing a giant Ultimate Protection Suit, that is, 100 + stuffed animals sewn to a jumpsuit, turning him into some kind of childhood head of the bed gone wrong. His instrument: lights. While singing and dancing Neil’s hard at work orchestrating an elaborate light show. Old lamps, giant inflatable storks and cats turn on and off. Strobes, disco balls and every other kitschy item any college student has ever had in their dorm ever that flash: think Daft Punk with a $16 budget. There is no such thing as not singing, there is no such thing as not dancing, those things exist in a world where there is such a thing as “cool” and “not cool.”
This is the Terror Pigeon’s world: there is only “awesome.”

MALUCA

BAND MEMBERS: Maluca

COUNTRY: USA

Born in the Bronx and raised in Manhattan by Dominican parents, MALUCA is that increasingly rare bird - a downtown girl who brings together the classic cool, glamour, grit and passion of New York City in an instant! After meeting Diplo at a karaoke bar, the two starting working together resulting in her debut single “El Tigeraso” (Mad Decent), an infectious track that draws on her Dominican electro merengue roots.  Maluca had her first public performance at the SXSW FADER fort and tore the roof off with a short set that showcased her wide range of influences - from artists such as ESG, Savannah Band, Wu-Tang, Gil Scott Heron, Nina Simone to styles like Merengue, Salsa, Cumbia, House, Disco, and Freestyle.  Keep your eyes open and platanos peeled for the self proclaimed “1/2 dominican 1/2 Pain in the ass”.

Foxx on Fire

BAND MEMBERS: Paul Housden: Vocals and Guitar – Geno Carrapetta: Drums – Edward Housden: Keys and Guitar – James Ratsasane: Bass

COUNTRY: MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA

IN ONE PHRASE: “Finishing the night with a bang was the big labels A&R’s wet dream, Foxx on Fire. Give them a few years and they’ll be sharing stages with The Rapture and Bloc Party...Foxx on Fire are going to be big.” – Inpress Magazine

he Game hit the stage with a minimal of hype starting the night off with his latest publicity stunt ¬– beef with Jay-Z. Yawn. Leave the veterans alone son. Thankfully this didn’t go for too long and after the sheep amongst the crowd had shouted a few ‘fuck Jay-Z’s’ Game got the show started by kicking into ‘Dope Boys’. Mean! What followed was a solid hour of West Coast Gangsta rap at its finest, Game spitting fire thru his back catalogue that included classics like ‘Westside Story’, ‘California Sunshine’,’ How We Do’, Hate it or Love it’ and ‘State of Emergency’ taking us corporate gifts back to the Gangsta Rap heyday when rocking Raiders caps, khakis and chucks was the thing to do (For some it still is). It was quite noticeable that Games voice wasn’t at his best and he himself admitted he wasn’t up to his best but he put on a dope show regardless. There wasn’t much floss to it but he made up for it with straight rawness. There were a couple of hip hop show clichés that included getting all the chicks up on stage to dance to ‘Wouldn’t Get Far’ his dedication to video ho’s worldwide and him sculling a full bottle of Vodka on stage while the DJ played ‘Blame it on the Alcohol’. Nice one bruv. Other clichés included the now obligatory Biggie and 2pac dedication where he strangely did a medley of ‘Hit’em Up’ and ‘Juicy’. The highlight of the night was definitely ‘One Blood’ due mainly to the frenzy it whipped up amongst the crowd when the Junior Reid vocals started up. That beat is a killer.
