GRAMMY WINNING, MULTI-PLATINUM, CHART-TOPPING SONGWRITER, NE-YO, ANNOUNCES AUSTRALIAN AND NEW ZEALAND TOUR - YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN
Grammy award winner, RIAA platinum Def Jam recording artist and chart topping songwriter Ne-Yo will embark on a five city Australian and New Zealand concert tour starting in Sydney on Saturday 7 November 2009.
The live concert dates are a celebration of his award winning third album - Year of the Gentleman. It is the follow-up to Because of You (released May 2007), which received this year’s Grammy Award or Best Contemporary R&B Album and In My Own Words (February 2006) - both of which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 and R&B/Hip-Hop Album charts.
In addition to penning this new collection, Ne-Yo once again showed his writing prowess, penning lyrics for Rihanna, Janet Jackson, Mary J. Blige and Celine Dion as well as the chart topping, record breaking Grammy nomiated song “Irreplaceable” for Beyonce.

#1 Power – Kanye West feat Dwele

Track and the fans won’t be disappointed with this effort. It features good friend Dwele and backing vocals from Kate Pierson of B52’s fame which makes for and interesting combination.
Fab Five Freddie speaks up..
Following the announcement of this year’s VH1 Hip Hop Honours honoree’s, all of which hail from the South, the show has been met with tremendous criticism. The show’s executive producer Fab Five Freddy recently spoke to VH1 about the recent criticism.
“As much conversation that we get from southerners saying we’re ghettoizing it, conversely we get people saying why are you honoring those people down South? It goes back and forth,” Fab Five Freddy explained. “I don’t think there’s any way you can go into the space that’s called Hip-Hop and do something that’s going to appease everyone.” Among those unimpressed with VH1 and Hip Hop Honors’ choice of honoree’s this year is Houston rapper Scarface. As hard as we fought to be a part of general population they still wanna give a nigga a label it’s hip hop fuck where I come from,” said Scarface in a Tweet made earlier this month. This year’s Hip Hop Honors, which will focus on the “Dirty South,” will honor Jermaine Dupri, Luke, Master P, Organized Noize, and more.
Return of Da Brat.
After originally being sentenced to three years for striking a fellow club goer with a bottle of rum in 2008, Da Brat is out on work release. The first female rapper to have a certified platinum-selling album (1994’s Funkdafied), made a cameo on the latest installment of Jermaine Dupri’s “Living The Live” viral video series. “I’m out on a little pass; I had to do some lawyer attorney stuff,” Brat explained. “Thank y’all for the love and support. I got a job. I work a nine-to-five, because I’m in the work release program. I make windows. If y’all need a window holla at your girl.” Brat joked that in addition to her newly acquired trade of window making, she would look to continue pursuing new acting and musical projects saying, “Too much grass done grew up when I ain’t done nothing.” Prior to the 2007 incident that led to her incarceration, Da Brat appeared in half–a-dozen films and was also a cast member of the VH-1 Reality show “The Surreal Life.” Her last studio album was 2003’s, Limelite, Luv & Niteclubz. Per the terms of her sentencing, Brat must also complete seven years of probation and 200 hours of community service..
Ricky Ross sues Rick Ross.
Although Rick Ross may be the Teflon Don, he may not prove to be bulletproof in the courtroom. Former drug kingpin “Freeway” Ricky Ross is taking the Miami rapper to court over the use of his name and likeness. Dubbed by FreewayEnterprise.com “The War Against the 4,” Ross plans to sue the rapper, his label Def Jam, Universal and other parties who he claims exploited his name and his past as a drug dealer in the black community. According to Ross, he even sent a cease-and-desist to Ross’ Def Jam from prison back in 2006 when the rapper was gearing up for his debut album Port of Miami, but did not receive as much as a response from the label. Ross was released from prison last year after a ten year stint for attempting to purchase 100 kilograms of cocaine from a federal agent. During the 1980s and ‘90s, Ross oversaw a drug empire that extended from Los Angeles to Ohio. After hi arrest in ‘96, a series of articles were published linking Ross’ drug connect Danilo Blandon to the CIA as a part of the Iran Contra.
T.I’s been hard at it.
Although it’s been only three months since his release, T.I. has already recorded over 80 songs for his upcoming seventh album King Uncaged. The Atlanta rapper has gotten into the studio with the likes of Kid Rock, The-Dream and Trey Songz & Lady Gaga. Another collaboration sure to garner press and fan anticipation is with avowed T.I. fan Eminem. The Detroit emcee and T.I. have already selected a beat and are hoping to record a duet sometime in the future. T.I. said that while they have yet to hit the booth, he is very excited to hear the outcome. “It’s in the making,” he said. “It just hasn’t been recorded yet. The song has been picked out and it’s been agreed for us to do it. We’re thinking a song that can definitely make its way to the club.” King Uncaged is slated for an August 17 release worldwide.

Winterbeatz 2010 - Sydney
True to its name, the follow up tour to Supafest brought with it the big names and the big crowds.
By early evening on 28 July 2010, the Acer Arena in Sydney was buzzing with fans of all ages, out to brave the winter cold and ready for some sizzling performances. It was no surprise, considering the powerhouse line up which included Fatman Scoop, Big Boi, T-Pain and of course the gentleman of the night, Neyo. Local talent Phinesse, Prinnie and DJ Nino Brown all did us proud on support.
Unlike some concerts, where a majority of the crowd hang around outside the main arena, waiting for the headliner, it was great to see everyone eagerly get into every set. Fat man scoop, always the entertainer, did not disappoint and brought his distinctive old-school flavour to the show.
Big Boi was the surprise act of the night for me. Formerly from Outkast, I had some doubts as to whether he could hold the crowd sans Andre 3000. I’m glad to say my fears were in vain. His show was fun and the crowd loved him. It was also great to hear some of the hits from his Outkast days, including ‘Ms Jackson’ and ‘Heya’ included in the mix.
Next stop- T-Pain. Always the energizer bunny on stage, T-Pain came out strong and ready to party. The fact that his set included so many club hits, to me made his job seem a little bit easier. ‘On a Boat’, ‘Bartender’ and “Take your Shirt Off’ sparked a sea of heads nodding and bodies moving. Although the shameless plugs and self promotion seemed to go on a tad too long for my liking, all was forgiven at the end. I mean, how long can one be annoyed at the man who keeps promising to ‘Buy You a Drink”. And had it not been for what what was to come next, I would have been almost sad to see him walk off the stage.
And finally, the man of the night, Neyo. A clear hit with the ladies, Neyo had the crowd hooked from the moment he strode on stage. He did his grammy nominated album ‘Year of the Gentleman’ proud, not just with an impeccable show both vocally and visually. He also looked the part. To me, his set was all class - smooth, entertaining, fun and sexy. And what he brought on stage for the ladies, his super hot dancers made up for, for the guys. In true gentlemanly style, Neyo not only paid tribute to one of his idols, Michael Jackson, he also paid kudos to his mum! (awwwww!). While some of his better known hits including Closer, Independent Woman and Sexy Love seemed to take the audience into a Neyo-frenzy, fans were just as receptive to some of the tracks off his new album, including Beautiful Monster and Champaign Life. I admit, as a huge fan of Neyo, my opinion may come across somewhat biased. But in all fairness, judging from the audience response, the screaming fans and the excited buzz in the air, it was obvious that I was not the only one who left in awe.
There is no doubt in my mind that Winterbeatz 2010 was a great success.
