#1 Miss Chocolate – Lil Jon feat R Kelly & Mario
Who said crunk was dead! It’s foremost & finest exponent of the art form Lil Jon sneaks back up on us with another bomb from his highly anticipated 2010 release Crunk Rock. As the title suggests, it’s a tribute to all things beautiful and the ladies will eat this up. Along the way, Jon get’s a little help from his friends Mario & sex fiend #1 R Kelly and with friends like these, you know it’s gonna be nastee. Miss Chocolate makes a welcomed change from the fodder that Lil Jon has been serving upto us of late. Hopefully the new album will be just as good as this.

Nas is in deep shit!
Rapper Nas has fronted court on charges of stiffing the IRS out of USD $2.5 million for the 2006 & 2007 financial years. If found guilty, he could face up to 5 years in a federal prison. On top of this, he’s pleaded not guilty to contempt of court charges for failing to pay ex wife Kelis USD 200,000 in court ordered child support payments.  The judge will bring down his verdict in early March.

Now here’s a first.
Broke West Coast rapper Ras Kass has announced that he has almost completed recording the entirety of his upcoming full-length CD. The as-of-yet untitled project will include 18-20 tracks on a limited edition CD and Vinyl respectively, and will feature unnamed special guests. The studio time for the album is funded by fans who supported his last release, The Quartely. Much like his previous album, Kass will look to the monetary support of fans to help produce the physical CDs of the album as well as 500 vinyl records.  With the help of music lovers, the independent rapper hopes to raise USD $3,800 in the next 60 days. Depending on the range of money donated by each individual, Kass will give a special reward as incentive. For example, those who pledge $15 or more will receive a physical CD of the album, as well as a link and name on Kass’ website, SavetheRasKass.com. Pledge $1,000 or more, and receive a limited edition set of lyrics to “Nature of the Threat,” handwritten by Ras Kass, a signed CD and vinyl of the latest album, two limited edition t-shirts, a phone call from Kass, a “special producer” credit on the album, a shout out on the project, and free entrance to any Ras Kass performance this year.  Although there is no official date for the project, it is scheduled to drop in mid August.

Believe it or not – Dr Dre is producing a dance record.
In a video interview with the Associated Press, singer Akon revealed what Dr Dre’s’s next song might be like. “Actually, that’s what really excites me more about it,” says Akon, initially speaking about Lady Gaga, who is signed to his label imprint. “You got some straight, hardcore Hip Hop guys actually moving into the dance realm.” “That’s shocking,” continued Akon, “when you got someone like Dr. Dre about to do a dance record. That’s my point. That’s crazy. But, in a way, it’s so exciting for me because that just shows our industry is so open-minded to everything. And believe it or not, with that open-mindedness, we can create magic.” “It actually sounds great,” said the singer of the unnamed Dre record. “He played it for me. I was shocked. I was like, ‘Wow, that’s dope!’ When the world hear this, they might go crazy!” It is unclear whether the record will be on Dr. Dre’s long-awaited Detox, or whether he’s simply producing it for another artist.

Finally… an album from Danny Boy.
Fans of Death Row Records’ early-to-mid ‘90s glory are familiar with the Chicago-born R&B crooner Danny Boy. The sunglasses-clad singer was once in the custody of mentor Suge Knight, and had the popular 1994 hit “Come When I Call” from the platinum Murder Was The Case soundtrack. The singer remained on the label between 1994 and the early 2000s, appearing on Death Row’s last release with Suge Knight at the controls, 2003’s Dysfunktional Family soundtrack. Danny also worked with 2Pac, Tha Realist and Chicago rappers Do Or Die. On April 20, WIDE AWAKE/Death Row will release It’s About Time, Danny Boy’s debut. The collection of singles features mostly unreleased material, with several DJ Quick productions, and appearances from the late Zapp front-man Roger Troutman.

The Doobie Awards.
New York-based magazine High Times announced its nominees for their annual Doobie Awards. The awards show, much like the magazine itself, will give nods to artistic achievements highlighting cannibus-culture. The nominees for the Hip Hop category include Method Man & Redman, B Real & Asher Roth. Four tracks make the “Pot Song of the Year” category, including Kid Cudi’s “Day ‘N’ Night,” Eminem’s “Must Be the Ganja,” Meth & Red’s “Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers,” and Asher Roth’s “Blunt Cruisin.” The event will take place on Mar. 21, from noon until 6 P.M. at Emo’s outdoor stage in Austin, Texas.
