The Social Network
Commonly referred to as ‘the Facebook movie’, The Social Network has been one of the most anticipated films to be released this year. It also has to be one of the best.
For the handful of people out there who haven’t yet heard, The Social Network tells the story of how Facebook was founded. Whilst for most part the story appears to be based on fact, it is quite likely that there are some fictitious elements rolled in- after all, it was made in Hollywood.
I admit, i had mixed feelings walking into the cinema, as I already had a rough idea of what the ‘Facebook story’ was about. But to my pleasant surprise, i found myself engaged from start to finish. The movie unfolds in such an interesting way that i believe those who know the Facebook story back to front will still be entertained from start to finish. The acting was great, the scripting was perfect and the characters were all likeable in some way. I felt that the casting was particularly good and brought the story to life.
The Social Network has mass appeal as it invokes that nostalgic feeling of student life and plays with many issues like friendship, loyalty, success, failure, power, greed and sex, that apply to almost anyone. Yes, even the non-nerds will walk away feeling satisfied!!
I am trying hard not to elaborate too much, particularly given that the plot is fairly well known. But all i can do is strongly recommend you watch The Social Network. If you are on Facebook, you need to see this movie. If you are not on Facebook, then that makes it two things you need to do.
