#1 –Get To Know Me Better- Naughty By Nature
Just when you thought they were dead and buried, Treach, Vin Rock & DJ Kay Gee pop up with a tune that’s as relevant and as banging as any track from their illustrious catalogue. It may not reach the heady heights achieved by the hits OPP, Uptown Anthem, Feel Me Flow or Holiday but it will make you stop and think how great these guys actually are and how much of a significant role they’ve played in hip hop music and urban culture over the past 20 years.
All hail the Queen.
Veteran rapper/actress Queen Latifah will be releasing her ninth studio album next month.
The star-studded album, entitled Persona, will feature appearances by Busta Rhymes, Mary J. Blige, Jadakiss, and Boyz II Men.
“It doesn’t have a specific theme – each song was so different from the next, me being the common denominator,” Queen Latifah told the Los Angeles Times. “And I realized my different characters were coming through on these songs. My acting, singing and rapping identities all came together under one roof as well as my taste in different kinds of music. I’d say it’s half rap and half singing. If I had to categorize it, it would be more like hip hop urban alternative.”
The new has been produced by duo Cool & Dre who’s previous credits include Fat Joe, The Game, Christina Millian & Rick Ross.
Nas Vs Kelis – The verdicts in!
A day after the birth of Nas and Kelis’ son, Knight, a judge has ordered Nas to pay child support. The exact amount, according to the Associated Press, is USD $44,000 per month - over USD $1,400 a day. As previously reported, Kelis said in legal documents that Nas had failed to provide any child or spousal support, though Nas maintains that the singer overestimated his worth. It was also reported that Nas was not allowed entry into the New York hospital where Kelis was giving birth. When not dealing with legaities surrounding his family, Nas is participating in the Rock the Bells tour and working on an album with Damian Marley titled Distant Relatives.
The Dream’s dream is over.
R&B singer, songwriter The-Dream has announced he will be ending his solo career. Much like Bow Wow and Soulja Boy before him, the Atlanta native made his retirement announcement late last week via his Twitter page.
"Being true to my word. I always answer the fans and followers. I am engaged and Love King ‘IS’ going to be my LAST album!” The Dream wrote. In his Twitter statement, the self-proclaimed “Radio Killa” also added that he will continue to write for other artists and make featured appearances.
Sad news for Beastie Boys fans.
Adam “MCA” Yauch of The Beastie Boys has been diagnosed with cancer. As a result of this saddening news, the group had to cancel their upcoming shows. Adam has a “very treatable” cancerous tumor in his salivary gland and as a result of this, the 43 year-old musician/film producer will need surgery to remove the tumor that is confined to an operable area and radiation treatments but his vocal cords won’t be affected.
