#1 – Mother Lover – Justin Timberlake & Adam Sandberg

Justin Timberlake & Saturday Night Live host Adam Sanberg have unleashed one of the greatest ode’s to mothers of all time. You’ve got to take this for what it is, funky, controversial but downright funny and very tongue in cheek. I don’t know if J.T’s got the balls to include this on his next album. (The record company would be aghast if he did) but the meager fact that he’s putting stuff like this out there shows his maturity as a performer and an entertainer. Pretty fly for a white guy me thinks!

The dog is unleashed.
After a widely reported prison sentence, Yonkers Rap veteran DMX is a free man. According to AllHipHop.com, late last week, the one-time Def Jam Records star was released from Arizona’s Maricopa County Jail. The 90 day sentence was extended from late last year, after the rapper had some highly-publicized disputes with guards, including a February incident involving a lunch tray. The rapper was also recently ordered to pay over a quarter of a million dollars for a 2004 road rage/police impersonating civil suit. Having last released 2006’s Year Of The Dog...Again on Columbia Records, the same imprint that first signed the rapper in 1991, DMX has stated previously that he intends to release a double album entitled Walk With Me Now and Fly With Me Later. The albums will be split between Hip Hop and Gospel. There has been no confirmation of DMX being signed to a label, or his post-prison release plans.

Willie D arrested.
Willie D has been a celebrated businessman, in addition to his 20-plus year music career. From brokering air travel, to foreign real estate, the Houston, Texas-based rapper has extended his brand beyond writing hits for The Geto Boys and numerous acclaimed solo albums, many released on Rap-A-Lot Records in the early ‘90s.

Today, The Houston Press reported that the political gangsta rapper was arrested for fraud charges, through his association with Texas One Wireless. The reports state that Willie set up an eBay account, and beginning September 2008, established feedback, selling Apple’s iPhone internationally. Once a reputation was built, the rapper reportedly asked buyers to pay him for the coveted phones through wire transfers, not authorized through the Bay Area auction powerhouse.

Deposits were reportedly made, but items were not delivered.

The rapper told victimized buyers that he filed reports of lost product through the United States Postal Service, but then would cease communication.

These federal charges, if convicted, could cause the rapper to face 20 years and/or a maximum fine of USD $250,000.

In the last year, Willie D had been primarily focused on developing Alabama white-rapper trio, Huntzville, whom he was writing for and producing. The group received some recognition for their song about school violence, “Backpack Fulla Guns”

Death Row to re-release The Chronic.
Artists such as Snoop Dogg, DJ Quik and Bishop Lamont have all commented on the vast amount of unreleased material Dr. Dre keeps in the Aftermath vaults. And it would seem that “The Doctor” began this habit back in his Death Row days, as his former label is making previously unreleased material from The Chronic available. Death Row/WIDEawake Entertainment Senior Vice President John Payne have explained how the label plans to reintroduce a classic album to a new generation.
“We’re re-releasing ‘The Chronic,’ and it’s going to be called, ‘The Chronic Relit’,” Payne said. “It will be remastered with a couple more songs that were done at that same time as well as a lot of footage and artwork. We’re remastering it so that it works with today’s technology, but we’re not changing the mixes or doing anything like that.”
Payne said the label has every intention of keeping the vast amount of Death Row recordings both “original and fresh” at the same time. And, in a bit of surprising news, he added that fans will have an opportunity to be involved in a separate online competition, allowing them to rap over a classic Dr. Dre production.
”There are a couple Dre tracks that had no third verse, and we’re going to be seeking people to complete them,” Payne added. “We won’t go to the entertainment realm. We just want average, everyday people.”
Tracks with added verses from fans will not be included on the reissue of The Chronic. As the finishing touches are being put on the projects, Payne explained that release dates and more information on how artists can submit verses will be announced in the coming weeks.
