#1 –Back Biters- WAYNE WONDER
It’s been a long time between drinks for Jamaican reggae star Wayne Wonder. He broke through in 2003 with the global club smash and top 10 hit No Letting Go and since then, he’s released a further six albums and countless singles that have all done well in his homeland but failed to make any impact on an international level. Hopefully his luck is about to change with the new single Back Biters. It ticks all the right boxes, has a lyrically cynical edge to it, and rocks along at a steady 102 BPM’s. He ain’t no Bob Marley, Peter Tosh or Burning Spear but he does deserve our attention and at least a listen.
Jay –Z the cash king
Forbes.com has released a list of the top earners in Hip Hop for the last financial year. Comprised of about 20 rappers, Although Hip Hop’s biggest money makers are still making millions, a majority of them are making far less than what they made in 2008. This year, in total, rappers on Forbes’ list made USD $300 million compared to last years USD $500 million. Topping the list of Hip Hop’s top earners is rapper Jay-Z, Jigga has managed to earn an estimated USD $35 in the past 12 months. This is less than half of the USD $82 million he made the previous year.
Clenching the Number 2 spot is Hip Hop mogul Diddy with USD $30 million. Kanye West is right behind Diddy with USD $25 million and 50 Cent and Akon tie for fourth with USD $20 million. Other artists to make it onto the list include Timbaland (Number 7), Ludacris (Number 13), and Andre 3000 and Big Boi from Outkast (Number 18).
Forbes’ list was estimated from incomes that include record sales, digital downloads, touring, films, TV shows, endorsements, books, and other entertainment ventures.
The return of Ja Fool
After being out the Rap game for sometime (which many see as a good thing) Ja Rule is coming back and this time round, he’s got a massive chip on his shoulder. Not only is Ja in the studio working on new tracks, he also promoting his new blog “Rule York TV.” In his first video off “Rule York TV” Ja exclaims, “That’s the motherfucking first blog on Rule York TV on the iPhizzle cam, nigga. I’m getting a lot of hardcore footage. All you bitch ass niggas out there, I’m letting y’all know I’m coming and I’m fucking, oh, I got a chip on my shoulders this year, bitch."
In the iPhone-filmed premier, Ja had some choice words for those emcees out there, “Nothing fucking stale, nothing faded, brand new, nigga. Get ready. I’m lettin’ y’all niggas know, man, you got about 60 to 90 days then I’ma put my dick in your mouth, man. Watch yourselves homies, telling you."
There is no word yet which label will be distributing Ja Rule’s next album (reportedly called The Mirror: Reloaded), as Murder Inc. is reportedly in negotiations with several imprints since parting ways with Universal earlier this year.
