#1 Can’t Live Without You – Charlie Wilson
He may be well into his 6th decade on this earth but legendary Gap Band front man Charlie Wilson is as still as relevant & fresh today as he was when he and his brothers burst onto the urban scene in the late 70’s. Many of today’s artists modeled themselves on Charlie including R Kelly, Brian McKnight, Jaheim & Case (just to name a few) and when you listen to this jam, you can understand why. Soulful, breezey, fresh and smooth as silk is the best way to describe it. The albums titled ‘Uncle Charlie” and you ain’t gonna find it in any record store here so itunes is your best option.
Rapper Juvenile arrested!
Juvenile was arrested late last week after the rapper claimed that marijuana found by police in a home he was recording in was his. Police were initially called to the home after neighbors complained of smelling marijuana. When police arrived Juvenile’s producer, Leroy Edwards, answered the door and police said upon opening the door there was a huge cloud of smoke.
Edwards was then handcuffed and a small amount of marijuana was found on him. When Edwards wouldn’t answer officer’s questions a warrant was attained allowing the officers to search the house. Once inside, the officers claimed they found 250 grams of marijuana. Juvenile told the officer’s that the marijuana they found was his and they then arrested both him and Edwards. Juvenile and Edwards have both posted bail following the incident.
Ice Cube get’s set to drop his 9th. Studio album
Hip Hop legend Ice Cube has revealed details of his upcoming album, I Am the West, via his music blog. “I AM THE WEST...is the name of my new record. After completing about 65% of my music, this is the perfect title,” wrote the Compton native. Cube indicated he’d be returning to his roots for the album, as well as giving an approximate release date. “This shit is cocky, no apologies, west coast gangsta shit. I can’t help it. That’s what I do. June seems too tight for a release, but July is very doable. We’ll see how things go. Now that I have my title, I can work on the concept of my photo shoot and artwork. I want to provide early merch before the drop date.” Finally, Ice Cube expressed his commitment to an authentic west coast sound, rather than pandering to other markets. “For seven or eight years now the west coast has been trying to do music that appeals to the south and midwest. The words, ‘too west coast’ would be heard throughout the industry whenever our music was played. Even by our own [deejays]. Left coast emcees were now trying to change their sound to cater to all the followers. We lost our way. Thank God for b-boys like Snoop Dogg, The Game and WC for keeping the West alive, but we were all guilty of over reaching. No more. At least not from me. I do it how I feel it; not how I think it should be done. Radio fucked us up. I hate the politics at radio. I don’t know who to pay to get my shit played. Having a hot song is not enough. Ridiculous.” Ice Cube’s last album was 2008’s Raw Footage.
Biggies home videos.
Trash talk TMZ.com has reported that Kashui Entertainment has filed a lawsuit against the Estate of Christopher Wallace, Faith Evans and others, claiming a breach of contract and promissory fraud. The company wanted to create a documentary about the life of Christopher “The Notorious B.I.G.” Wallace. In their plan, they were hoping to incorporate home videos, which they say they received permission to use. Court documents show the suit was filed February 23 in California’s Central District Court. According to the lawsuit, Kaushi and Dro-Entertainment claim they signed an agreement in February 2007 to purchase archival footage of Wallace, from RocDarling Films, the production company run by Wallace’s friend Damion “D-Roc” Butler. They say they paid the money but never got the home videos. As a result, Kaushi is asking for USD $1,000,000 in compensation.
Fiddy’s been a bad boy.
When rapper 50 Cent waged war against fellow rapper Rick Ross in early 2009 he tried a number of different tactics to win the feud, but it looks like he may be sued over one of them.
At one point during the rapper’s feud 50 Cent leaked a video of Rick Ross’ baby mother, Lastonia Leviston, in a sex tape. The video was then edited to include commentary by 50 Cent’s Pimpin’ Curly persona. Now allhiphop.com reports that Leviston is now suing 50 Cent for his use of the tape. Leviston claims she suffered “emotional distress” as a result of the video being leaked and that 50 Cent didn’t receive the proper permission to use the tape. Leviston began her lawsuit this week by filing a complaint in a Manhattan court yesterday (February 24). It is unclear how much Leviston is asking for in her lawsuit. Although Leviston is currently going through the process of filing a lawsuit, Rick Ross’ other baby mother Tia Kemp seemed to benefit greatly from Ross’ feud with 50 Cent. During the feud last year Kemp was treated to a shopping spree courtesy of 50 Cent, released a tell-all book, and was even featured on the cover of Smooth Magazine.
