GHOSTFACE KILLAH Review - The Forum (Sydney)

Ghostface Killah AKA GFK AKA Iron Man AKA Ghostdeini AKA Tony Starks AKA Pretty Toney AKA you get the picture. This guy sits pretty much near the top of my list of performers I must see before I die, so to say that I was excited would be a massive understatement. But enough about me on to the show.

Well I’d love to tell you about how the supports kicked ass and tore shit up but unfortunately I was glued to the TV at the pub next door to the Forum as State of Origin number II played its way out. Go QLD! If its any concession I was told by a number of reliable sources that Dialectrix killed it.

Anyways… we made our way inside around 10.30 to find a nicely packed out venue getting warmed up by hip hop classics being spun by DJ Tikelz. Yes that’s right Tikelz playing HIP HOP! Nothing like a bit of Gangstarr and Biggie to set the mood right.

With time getting on for a school night and the clock passing 11.30, Ghost crashed the stage fashionably late (maybe someone forgot his banana nutriment) supported by a couple of dodgy hypemen (not sure who they were,Trife da God?!?! Theodore Unit?!?!) What followed was just over an hour of rapid fire Ghostface Killah bangers interspersed with many a Wu Tang classic. There was barely a moment to breathe as Ghost dropped hit after hit running the full spectrum of his back catalogue. Personal highlights were ‘Mighty Healthy’, ‘One’ and ‘Nut Meg’ off Supreme Clientele, ‘Be Easy’, ‘ Metal Lungies’, ‘Run’, ‘White Linen Affair’, ‘Fish’ etc etc No Ghost fan could’ve left the show disappointed even if he didn’t do ‘Daytona 500’ and ‘All That I’ve Got is You’. He even had time to break out a few classic verses from his Wu collabs including verses from ‘Ice Cream’, ‘Incarcerated Scarfaces’, ‘Can it Be All So Simple’ and 4th Chamber’. Wu whole platoon filled with Raccoons indeed. He even did Decksverse from ‘Triumph’ and teased us with ‘Liquid Swords’. Awesome!

Ghost switched it up a little late in the piece by getting a bunch of chicks from out of the crowd to dance around the stage to ‘Ghostface’. Not really my cuppa tea but i gotta say I did get hypnotized by one hottie wearing what looked like stockings on her arms! Check the footage:

Complaints? Only that he cut the songs so short I guess having such an impressive back catalogue only allowed for him to spit verse, hook then switch. Also the promoters could’ve spared a bit of a budget to provide a decent backdrop because those silver letter and budget Wu symbol were weak. But that shit didn’t even matter cos I just saw Ghostface Killah live! I think I can die happy.
