The best thing about this album is it’s different. Itâ€™s different from what you’d expect from a manufactured girl band and different to what else is out there. It took a few listens for it to grow on me but now I’m really into it.

The members of Danity Kane were handpicked for stardom by the music mogul and CEO of Bad Boy records Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs. Aubrey, Aundrea, D. Woods, Dawn and Shannon were the successful contestants on the third series of the reality television show ‘Making the band’.

‘Welcome to the Dollhouse’ is the group’s second album and is a nice blend of R & B, pop, sassy dance and soft rock ballads. The first song on the album is ‘Bad girl,’ featuring the multi-talented Missy Elliot. From the moment I heard the operatic crescendo at the beginning of the track, I knew this album was something special. Another notable song is the infectious ‘Sucka for Love’. Miami rap artist Rick Ross appears on ‘Ecstacy,’ blessing the album with that requisite and often allusive street credibility.

Diddy appears on the intro and briefly on the lead single ‘Damaged,’ but resists the temptation to rhyme on Danity Kane’s sophomore effort. While listening to this album, I couldn’t help but think of another of his proteges â€“ the mid-1990s girl group Total. It made me wonder whether Danity Kane has what it takes to ensure longevity in the music business.

Assisted by sleek production, their vocal range and talent is obvious on this album, but the only track penned by a member of the group is the interlude ‘Secret Place,’ which Dawn Richards co-wrote with Mario Winans. I guess time will tell if we’ll still be listening to Danity Kane in years to come, but at least this is the type of album you can listen to from start to end without the temptation to skip tracks.
