K21 wins Hilltops initiative
The 2008 recipient of the Hilltop Hoods Initiative — set up in 2005 by the platinum-spinning hip hop trio to held young South Australian hip hop acts — is K21. The 18-year old from Clearview (real name Adrian Musso-Gonzalez) had his recent Greenhouse mix tape made Adelaide’s 3D Radio Feature of the Week. The Hilltops set up the Initiative to give something back to the state’s hip hop community and acknowledge the support they received from Arts SA at the beginning of their career. This year they raised the money to $5,000, to manufacture and distribute a CD. K21 also gets two mentorship sessions with the Hilltops’ co-manager PJ Murton.

The 2005 recipient General Knowledge are nearing completion of their second album and released MC Detail’s debut album. Subsketch (2006) got airplay on Fresh FM and Nova 919 for his debut album “Cheaper Than Therapy”, while Jimblah (2007) is completing his debut album. See http://www.arts.sa.gov.au.
