Just wanted to say thanks to everyone here, Especially Sef, as he answered all my questions in an instant, but also to toofunk, b-love, asanka, klasik, etc etc. Did my first gig last night. It was an 18th at a club that was hired for the night, and it went surprisingly well. I brought my own decks as their decks weren’t really in a usable condition. I also was using my new needles, got the m447’s, as i couldn’t afford the digitracks or any other ortofons, lol. Man, my vestax is so different to those club mixers. WTF IS A SAMPLER?!??! LOL! I was so confused initally, trying to work out hot monitoring worked, what the mid levels did, why the cross fader didn’t work properly and shit, lol.
After i got all set up which took about 45 minutes because i had nfi what i was doing, i started playing a few tracks, and my hands were shaking so much, i couldn’t get the needle onto the vinyl. Then by the time i settled into it and was beat mixing better because i wasn’t trembling, people started dancing, and i started freaking out again. The last thing i wanted to do was drop a shit track and have everyone walk off the floor, but that didn’t really happen. Most of the girls were dancing for most of the night, and no one turned around and looked at me funny when i was mixing tracks, so i guess i was doing alright. I couldn’t really tell how i was doing. It sounds completely different when the volume is cranked right up, but the owner of the joint said i was pretty good, and was saying to the other part owner that if they wanna start doing nights, they should get me to play, so I’m taking that as a good sign.
I did fuck up at one point in the night though where i stopped the turntable that was actually playing. lol. Everyone turned around like “wtf???”
