I thought this fit better in this thread than the old school thread. What are your all time favourite 50s-80s soul tracks?

There are way too many for me but some i can think of now....

Marvin Gaye - Mercy mercy me
Temptations - Ain’t too proud to beg
Barry White - You see the trouble with me
Staple Singers - I’ll take you there
Bobby Caldwell - Open your eyes
Chicago - Street Player (might not classify as soul)
Sam Cooke - Cupid, You Send Me, Bring it On home to me
Bill Withers - Just the two of us
Randy Crawford - Street life

The answer, it was in me
And I made up my mind
To define my own destiny

I’ve got this awesome track by Kool and the Gang - not strictly soul, more like funk/disco to me - it a live version of Get Down On It which switches mid song intp Celebration - much better than those poppy remakes!

And You to Me Are Everything by the Tavares.  That was pretty cool.

Some other classics, some more funk/disco than soul....

Unlimited Touch - I hear music in the streets
Alicia Myers - I just wanna thank you
Ashford and Simpson - Bourgie Bourgie
Chic - A lover’s holiday
Chaka Khan - Tell me something good
Teddy Pendergrass - Close the door
Hues Corporation - Rock the boat
Roy Ayers - Love will keep us together

I wish people at clubs these days appreciated this stuff

lol those two songs are almost interchangeable. Love em!

Hey i cut Gregory Abbott “Shake You Down” up on the weekend, and sampled it for a beat. The accappella at the end of the track is gold!

Another great 50th/60th birthday party song - Lou Rawls - You’ll never find another love like mine
