I’m sure I don’t need to hash out all that’s been going on with what the Vatican is calling the “Sex Abuse Crisis”. Thoughts?

No offence to the religion and I obviously don’t want the unavoidable implications bringing down the church would bring, but I really can’t wait for this highly flawed institution to crumble!

I wouldn’t say highly flawed institution.

The church has its place in the world. Those priests abusing Lil kids are a very small percentage.

Its just like saying every Muslim is a terrorist when we know that aint true.

I don’t agree with everything that the church does like not letting women to be priests and homosexual issues. But i still believe there is a place for the church.

And i am also more inclined to vote for a christian prime minister than an atheist.

^^ So you would really base your Political vote based on a religion? Interesting.

I don’t know much about whats going on with this- seems the spotlight hits religion every 6 months or so to make note of some of the issues that get swept under the carpet.

Like every organisation, the Church is driven by power and controlling people who tend to have a few that turn corrupt. Doesn’t mean they are all bad, doesn’t mean they are all good.

Many anglican churches have opened the doors for female and also gay priests/bishops. The catholic church opened their doors to anglican priests that want to convert back to ‘traditional morals’. It started a worldwide war and is now following over into australian politics etc. Especially when KRudd(anglican) tried to get on board with the catholic canonisation of mary mackillop…

But still all churches are taking the hit for an individuals s3x crimes. Hope they all burn for what they did, and that fund that the pope setup is kind of protecting the church’s interests rather than helping the victims…

Julia is a ‘non practising’ baptist not an atheist, her views on same sex marriage were very church orientated. Playing the card to get votes from people who are scared of the ‘mad monk’ pfftt.

i attend anglican church where there is a female priest. i also like anglican church because u can get a feed after mass, like tea n cake n stuff lol.

Julia is a retard who is worse than rudd. But thats not the point of discussion here lol. No im pretty sure Julia is an atheist she has said so on many interviews, she was brought up in a baptist environment but as she got older she for her own personal reasons has said that she does not believe in god. She said that on Jon Faines program.

As much as we think otherwise Australia is most certainly a Christian country and that this is enshrined in our operational of Parliament and legal system. With that said Australia is open to all people of religious and cultural backgrounds.

I was at a pizza shop recently and while i was waiting for a pizza this African guy came in to order a pizza and asked the pizza dude if he uses pork on the pizza and the pizza guy said yes, and the african guy went crazy saying that pork is haram and that it is dirty and that the guy shouldnt use ham as topping.

My issue with this is that there are some people who come here and want to enforce their beliefs on others, i mean if he dosent want to eat pork then go somewhere else why start a pointless arguement with someone.

I could just imagine me walking into a pakistani restrauant and demanding them cook me some bacon lol.

I just feel as though with a prime minister who is Atheist can open a whole lots of worms.

call me radicalman hanson lol but since we are talking about Julia...i think she said that we can have our views and put it out for discussion lol

I don’t agree with everything that the church does like not letting women to be priests and homosexual issues. But i still believe there is a place for the church.

I guess it depends on how you define highly flawed. Personally any entity that sets out to represent a faith of a benevolent nature and instead over the centuries causes great harm to masses of people (including its own constituents), fits my definition of highly flawed. This isn’t limited to sexual abuse. The Church has played a hand in some of the world’s most atrocious acts.

I agree the Church does have a place in this world, but its currently abusing its stature and that’s what pisses me off. They believe they are above the law and have lost sight of what their faith represents.

Also it’s nothing like saying all Muslims are terrorists. Let’s be clear here, I’m not attacking Catholics as people or their faith. I’m saying the system by which the faith is run is simply not working and a contradiction to its existence.

I was always brought up to believe that you dont need the middle man.

The Church is one thing; faith is another. The fact that there are so many denominations and institutions that worship the same God, only differing on points that have been translated and interpreted by man, suggests that it doesn’t really matter which Church you’re part of. I think there are positive doctrines that can be borrowed from any number of religions and that can contribute to living your life as a good person, and these have devised by man, so it’s not all bad.

I agree, the actions of a minority have had a devastating effect on the majority of the priesthood who have genuine faith and well placed intentions. As with many institutions, those in power in the Church, the highly ranked decision makers, are where the real power and corruption lies, and that has little to do with the lowly parish priest.
