Are you meant to tip waiters/waitresses in Sydney?

Went to a place last night, and the waitress was hanging round during payment smiling at us, but she wasn’t putting the payment through (someone else was). I tipped, but on my card, not with cash. Was i meant to give her a cash note to show my appreciation for serving us? Is that custom in Sydney? I’m assuming the restaurant will pick up that tip and not her.

I don’t usually tip, as its not manditory in Australia. I think its ok to tip on credit card. I only usually tip when the service is good, otherwise no way! smile

Yeah, the service by this individual waitress was really good, and i wish I’d tipped her, rather than everyone with the CC.

All good though, the restaurant called yesterday and asked me if i could give some feedback on my meal experience. I gave the waitress a rave review. Hopefully she’ll get more than just a pat on the back.
