Shiest
.
Nicknamed the East to West Pipeline, Noel “Shiest” Callahan is a Newfoundland-born, but Alberta-bred hip-hop MC. With his slick talk, witty freestyles, and incredible microphone presence Shiest is a rapper’s rapper.
.
In September of 2009, after repeated attempts to release his debut album, Shiest teamed with ODC Productions to release, They Call Me. With its heavy East Coast Hip-Hop influence, They Call Me is an album chalked full of double entendres and thoughtful punch lines all carried by Shiest’s aggressive yet charismatic flow. However, complimenting his cocky battle rhymes are sincere songs that touch on personal demons he struggles to overcome and the suicide of the childhood friend who encouraged him to become an MC.
Since its release, They Call Me has gained Shiest much notoriety. Not only did the album chart nationally in Canada on the weekly Campus Radio Hip-Hop Charts, where it peaked at #2, but the album received a 2010 ECMA Award Nomination for Rap/Hip-Hop Recording of the Year. Critically the album received favourable reviews from Calgary’s Gauntlet, St. John’s Telegram, and American-based E-Zine RapReviews.com.
.
To satisfy hungry hip-hop fans who began to yearn for more, Shiest followed up his debut release with a free for download online Mixtape. The Soul’d Out Mixtape includes previously unreleased tracks that feature guest appearances from 2009 Juno Nominee Classified, Spesh K, and Matt Nokes amongst others.
.
On the video front, Shiest has created a strong presence online with the release of two music videos on YouTube – “Nuttin New” and “Church” respectively. The total plays of both videos are over 15,000. Shiest recently wrapped production on another video from They Call Me, entitled “Prop’s Pilin Up”.
.
As far as Shiest’s ultimate goal, he states “I’d like to be able make a living off my music, maintain creative control, and release a solid project every year”.
.
Shiest is presently promoting They Call Me, while working on his sophomore album Fire Water, due out later this year.
