Being an avid soccer/football fan, I was just wondering what everyones thoughts were, if any of the prospect of Australia hosting the biggest sporting event in the world?

What do you think of the response of the AFL and NRL, should they stop complaining about it and accept that this would be a major boost for the Australian economy, or should they fight for it not to be held here because it might sway more and more Aussies to watch/be involved with the world game?

AFL and NRL (and now Union having a VIC team too) this is a stable income and support base, membership etc. For a once off opportunity to host the world cup and so far in advance, they should definately be able to amend the season so Australia can host the world game.  Its massive exposure, huge internationa tourisim and as a sporting national it would be bias of us not to host!

They need to sort it out. Compensation to the clubs perhaps or just change the season up a little. half before half after the world cup...am sure they can sort it.

I agree, with a minimum of 9 years before any chance of holding the event, I am sure something can be arranged to accommodate all 3 codes!

i think we have good chance since we have so many big stadiums all around aus and from what i have read we do have a good chance of getting a world cup here
-
i think its the afl and nrl who are struggling more then anyone else, all i heard this year on the both versions of the footy shows was the lack of numbers at there games
-
for e.g there was a netball game mid this year which had more ppl at the stadium then what a afl and nrl game had there games
-
if football/soccer was ever gonna be massive here we would have to do something with the quality of players we get, i am a member of the victory and i gotta say that it bothers me to see them on top of the ladder with the way they play

Sef I totally agree! I’m also a member of Melbourne victory and sometimes find myself pretty disgusted/embarrassed at the quality, or lack thereof and as you mentioned they are at the top of the table, wtf?

Either way, fingers crossed, would be a dream come true!
