Because i come from a country where Christians are treated as 2nd class citizens. We are not allowed to follow our own values freely in Pakistan so you can imagine why i believe these statements by Muslim leaders seem hypocritical. They are pushing for non christian holy holidays to be introduced but at the same time tell me which Muslim country allows for Christians to practice their faith without scrutiny.
no! and this is coming from a non-chritian (im buddhist). Sri lanka has holidays for Christian, Buddhist & hindu’s they have public holidays literally at least 3-4 sometimes 5 days a month, it may sound good but it ruins efficiency in so many areas.
Hell yeah! What about renaming the current holidays back to their pagan origins? Muslims should be allowed to take an “Eid” day off work and pagans/witches can have an “equinox” day off! Isssh it is the same day
-
What do you do when the muslim holidays are based on lunar cycles and the dates can change tho?
there shouldnt be any holidays for any religion which makes money for the government
-
now all u religious ppl dont get angry at that bc this is coming from someone who doesnt believe in anything like that
meh i dont care, i get leave from work during Eid anyways :D
Yeah, i thought that was part of workplace law in terms of tolerance towards religious beliefs. i.e. Work may be suspended on religious holy days without it coming out of your leave.
As much as i’d love to have more days off, i think this request is a bit lol worthy.
February 22: Celebrity Day (aka TOM CRUISE DAY)!!! YEAH!!!
This is a major holiday for Scientology’s many Celebrity Centres, highlighting their achievements and celebrating their existence.
we have a day off for that fucken old hags bday “the queen” why?
-
it bothers me bc its not her bday and bc those royal retards never come here
-
sif have a holiday for midgets whipping horses
Looking forward to the Eid celebrations! Mates are running a Somali Eid party, my mother works at an islamic college… Bring on the festivals and food! Did i mention the food?
I believe Australia is a Christian country that respects other cultures and views.
I don’t think we should be having holidays for other religions. And i believe that in this instance that Australian Islamic leaders should acknowledge change in Islamic Countries where they dont embrace other religions equally and once minorities in those countries are not persecuted for following a religion other than islam and also are free to do simple tasks like go to church or to a temple without tanks and police guards to protect them then they can comment on Australias religious holiday issue.
Melbourne is also home to a wide range of religious faiths. The largest of which is Christian (64%) with a large Catholic population (28.3%).[146] However Melbourne and indeed Australia are highly secularised, with the proportion of people identifying themselves as Christian declining from 96% in 1901 to 64% in 2006 and those who did not state their religion or declared no religion rising from 2% to over 30% over the same period.
